Foods...

You might be wondering what we're eating over here.  Basically, nothing different.  We're blessed, as we have food to eat, so I make it a policy of mine never to complain about the food.  In fact, we have so much food, that my only gripe is that they give me too much.  Since I also make it a policy to finish everything of what I ask for, order, take, etc., sometimes it gets too much!  There are weird things here.  Like for example - I was eating this thing of which I thought was French Toast.  They tasted great!  I had them a few mornings after working out at the gym, but then I looked closer at the sign... it was FRIED TOAST.  What the heck?!!!  You mean - somebody actually took a piece of toast and threw it into the deep fryer?!  Well, yes it is.  That morning practice ended right away.  Now we're back to good ol' oatmeal.  Dinner is kindof interesting, however - I had a "cheese and onion pastry".  Mmmm.  The weird thing is - I've seen it on the menu about 3 times now... and I haven't been here that long!  The fortunate thing is - they have rice at pretty much every meal, which helps this Filipino out alot!  (Except, it's never like rice from home!)  Well, there is a famine here in the country, so the news says.  I hope our people can go and do something about that.

Thanks to all those who keep in touch - it really is uplifting to see a response on the blog, or an email.  I'm thinking of and praying for you all.

I went to the range the other day to ensure my weapons work, and they do.  We had a "plinking" competition (the range staff got bored).  We had to shoot down a couple of water bottles with a limited number of rounds.  It was elimination.  In the end, there were two bottles left, and 2 guys left with ammo and not eliminated - me and this other experienced soldier.  The order to fire was given and the rounds began.  Bam!  Bam!  Bam!  In the end, it was a tie - he got one, and so did I.  Well, one range staff told me - "Well, if you need to, you'll take down your attacker."  Hopefully, we won't have to get into much more than rapid shooting at a stupid water bottle!  Haha!  In the end, lots of fun... but the amount of sweating under that protective gear was intense!  I must have downed 5 litres of water in 3 hours!  I think it had to be 50 degrees.  Once I checked the temp - and it was 43 degrees... and we were IN THE SHADE!

God Bless you all!  Keeping you in mind and in my prayers.  :)

Sir, you're so wise! Tying with him so that you don't lose but to keep his hopes up. Also that fried toast sounds interesting... I think I'll try it. Also you should pull a star trek, and start each message with: "Captain's Blog, Star Date... etc" Or not, your choice... Anyway, take it easy,
