Canada Day

Hello Everyone!  Happy Canada Day!  I've been so happy to hear from all of you in the blog and through emails.

Yesterday was a really nice day for us Canucks!  We had a great big Canadian Flag flying proudly from one of our aerials.  The Grey Cup was brought from Canada for us, as well as members of the Sakatchewan Roughriders.  George Canyon (a country singer - see his videos on YouTube) played a concert for us.  They had cake shaped in a Maple Leaf for us.  It was a day many wished they were Canadian.  It was neat to see everyone here - if not in desert uniform - dressed "a la Canadian", with Roots and Petro Canada, etc. wear on.  The funny thing is - it looked like a typical scene you would see on Yonge Street... except we're all armed!  (Haha! - it's surreal!)  I saw a guy who didn't look like he was "packing" - and he said: "oh - I'm packing Scarborough style!".  Haha - that was funny.  In the end - we're all just good, fun-loving Canadians.  There was a Hockey Game on our rink, but because of work, I kinda missed alot of it.  I didn't even get to go to the Tim's!  Oh well - war is heck.

People have been asking me for what they can send to me by way of religious articles and such.  The thing is - they're already stock full of the stuff.  The real problem is - doing apostolate... and just handing out Rosaries isn't exactly that effective without real one on one charity, etc..  The Chaplains are working their tails off, from what I can see.  But - there is a large degree of disregard for things spritual, in many ways... just like back at home, now couple that with the pessimism of the life here... and we have just what St. Paul was faced with.  That's right!  There ain't no difference!  So I guess what I really am asking for in order to help others live their faith well, is to pray hard for everyone over here that they may seek, find, and love Christ through this experience.  Once we can get that, then, maybe we can move on tho the next stage.

(Just a short reminder, however - please be careful what you write.  It would not be an exaggeration to state that others (ie - the enemy, the insurgents, the bad guys) could be monitoring anything and everything coming out of our camp.  No kidding - if you're not careful, you might get a really strange phone call.  It's happened before, so please be careful - I wouldn't put military names of units, timings of flights, addresses, etc..  It's all a part of Operational Security.  Make no mistake that we're all in this together... even if you aren't responding to alarms, etc..)

Oops!  Time limit is up!

Gotta go before the computer closes!  God bless - I'll write more later!  Happy Canada Day!  :)

Hi Sir,
Just writing to say hi, my mom says hi too, and we hope your doing ok. I'm sure you heard about the Ex, which was a lot of fun and hard work. I think we're all getting used to having no sleep; I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Its nice to finally have a break, I'm not sure if you've heard but we've been into parkour lately, which is basically running, climbing, jumping misjudging distances and face-planting. I haven't had the misfortune of the last two, so I'm ok.
Anyway Happy Canada Day!!!
