Observations of the priests... and The Alexandrian

The weather has been particularly hot, as of late.  The other night while I was out, I dug into my pocket to look at my thermometre.  I was surprised to see that it was 30 degrees celsius!  I mean - in the dark of the night it was as hot as it is with the current midday sun in Toronto!  Haha!

The weirdest thoughts come to mind when going about business... and the things you miss become quite strange too.  I never thought I would have flashes of memories of something as silly as walking through an airconditioned aisle at the department store, or passing a particular street corner in the home city.  Silly, huh?  One of the things I've been graced with is being able to attend Holy Mass here on a daily basis.  The priest chaplains here are a good bunch who want to get out to the furthest places where soldiers are, just to offer them Holy Mass - the only Mass some of them may see in months.  I've seen warriors, I mean warriors, come to the priest for some of their time to see them openly welcome these soldiers and offer them a listening ear, or the Sacraments.  It's not my vocation, but if it was - watching some of these priests would be the example which would inspire a young lad to step up to the plate and see if the priesthood is what Our Lord is asking of him.  A priest old me of how sad he was when he goes to see the soldiers in the forward bases - who are realy on the front lines.  He spoke to me of how tirelessly he saw them taking care of each other - to the point where some he was caring for looked at him with sullen, sleep deprived eyes, and a sleep clouded mind.

As for my own local community here, our small Daily Mass is growing!  It's nice to gather with like-minded people, attend Mass with them, and pray the Angelus, then go to lunch!

Haha!  I ate lunch with a Mullah just recently.  Somehow - the care of mullahs has been dropped into my lap.  I really don't mind.  Hopefully, they are getting a good example of what Christianity is from me.  (I hope I'm being a good example!)  Also - I like dealing with them, because they are the voice to the people.  People listen to them carefully, and I hope they might have something good to say about our love for Our Lord.  Plus - as I said to you before - Afghans are like latinos: BIG 'manana' attitude!  You make an appointment for a certian time... and it's a suggestion!  Conversations go on and on... and meetings seem pointless.  There's lots of defending honour, and not wanting to look stupid... oh - and only the very very very top boss makes any decisions!  (Does this sound familiar to anyone?  Haha!)  Anyways, back to the mullah and lunch - He watched me saying grace before meals, and apparently - according to him through a translator - I'd make a good Mullah!  Haha!  I didn't have anything to say about that!

So do you have questions about things you want to know out here?  Post a question, and I'll try and post an answer.  It'll help with getting subjects to post here.

Thanks to CN who sent me a message.  This blog has been atached to The Alexandrian - a Canadian online journal of Catholic art and thought.  The connection is here: http://www.thealexandrian.org/blog

By the way - I'm missing out on seeing HappySlip.  Ever seen HappySlip.com?  Well - the actress is visiting Toronto, and I'm missing out!  AHHHH!  It would have been nice to be at the meet and greet there.  I guess I'll just have to write to the actress myself for an autograph!  (No fair - all you in the Phils and in LA had meets and greets!)  Anybody have her address?  Haha!

Oh - guess what the Brits are getting me into?  Cricket!  You get that?!  CRICKET!  I actually understand it now!
