Hello everyone! I can't tell you where I am, who I am with, etc., etc.. It's all a part of being careful of information that might get into the bad guys' hands. (When contacting / writing to me - please be aware of this also. I'm actually being serious. It may seem weird to all of you back in peaceful Canada, but we all have to be aware that the world isn't exactly a beach resort every where you go).
So - what's up with me? Well - I'm doing fine. It's HOT here where I am - and it's supposed to get hotter as my journeys continue! The temperature is 35 degrees, or something - with this haze of heat surrounding us. It's okay though - lots of cold refrigerated water wherever you go. So far, I'm in a waiting pattern until I can be scheduled to continue my journey, so - I have some "time off" to acclimatize, study, and get used to the surroundings.
The biggest thing to note here that made me happy is that as soon as I arrived, I noticed the house of our boss Manuel! I went there to make a visit and saw that there was a possibility to join Him in a daily meal... or at least once a week at the beginning of the week. It turns out, his clerk isn't in to make arrangements for the banquet, but at least I can make visits from time to time to talk to Manuel, confer with him and tell him how I'm doing. Don't worry - I'll be telling him about all of you back home.
Right now, I'm put up in a comfortable air conditioned room. The food is good and is quite a bit like the food at home. I will see if I can taste some of the local fare sometime. I'll let you know how that goes.
The gym facilities are good, and I've had a chance to go a couple of times... just to get used to the heat. I went for a jog in the hot sun, and got in trouble for it since too much too soon could be bad. In retrospect - it makes sense to me.
I had a chance to mingle with "locals"... except - the weird thing is, the ones I talked to were all "tao from 'da bahay'" (if you know what I mean). I was able to chat with some of them about how they got here and their experiences coming from three stars and a sun. I was saddened by the plight of these people who sincerely want a better life for themselves and their families, and who are willing to do whatever it takes to find and follow their dreams... even if it means doing jobs way below their educational and professional expertise and experience. I pray that things may change one day, but am encouraged by their resilience and determination. I guess we all have much more to do to make the world a better place that recognizes the dignity of all people.
To my "people" at Oaklands (especially Smurfs) - you can be proud... a house shirt was worn today over here! (I would wear them all, but I didn't have a chance to go to the shop and get more).
Well, I'm missing you all, and missing home. Please write when you can and stay in touch. Internet is super slow here, and we have strict time limits to allow others to get on to the net and communicate with home. I'll keep in touch as the adventure continues. God Bless you all! To my Oaklands crowd: Vivat Iesus in Cordibus Nostris!... Semper Vivat!
